ASICS Tiger re-introduces the Gel Lyte OG

ASICS Tiger is finally re-introducing the Gel Lyte OG, which originally released 30 years ago in 1987. Even tough they made some slight changes on the midsole, due to stability issues, the Gel Lyte OG will come back the same way as it did 30 years ago.

Sneakerness Amsterdam 2017 Recap

I visited Amsterdam last week, in order to be at the latest Sneakerness Event in this beautiful city, which took place in the Kromhouthal on the weekend of the 3rd and 4th June. It was my first time visiting this event and I had a really good time.
I got the chance to catch up with some great dudes and of course to meet new people aswell.
Here’s a little Recap of my Sneakerness Weekend in Amsterdam.

ASICS x Ronnie Fieg “Volcano 2.0” Collection

ASICS Tiger and New York based designer Ronnie Fieg join forces once again for the release of the “Volcano 2.0” Collection, that will release this upcoming Friday at Kith shops and, including a Gel Lyte III in a very familiar colorway and also a Gel Diablo, which gives it’s comeback after originally releasing in 1995.

Back in 2013 Ronnie Fieg brought back the Gel Lyte V silhouette, which originally released in 1993 in the best way possible, creating the ASICS Gel Lyte V “Volcano”. Eventough he would have liked to use the colorway on the split tongue silhouette, he decided to take the risk to work on the 5’s, to keep pushing the market forward.
Almost four years later RF decides to take another risk and bring back one of his most iconic colorways under the name of Kith.

The ASICS Gel Lyte III “Volcano” 2.0 consists of the same color palette as the 5’s. An upper constructed in different shades of red, brugundy and pink, matching beautifully together and featuring a combination of premium materials as suede, nubuck and mesh crafted in Japan.
Even if their no official numbers yet on the ASICS Gel Lyte III x Ronnie Fieg “Volcano 2.0”, my guess is that we will be seeing similar numbers to the recent Made in Japan pairs, like the Super Green, Milita and Salmon Toe 2.0 or even more limited ones, meaning 700 pairs or less.
The Volcano colorway is also a reflection of Kith’s impending eruption, as the brand has continued their way to the top in the last couple of years with a crazy amount of work.

The Gel Diablo silhouette originally released back in 1995 and is celebrating it’s re-release 22 years later thanks to Ronnie Fieg. He had been trying to bring this silhouette back for years and he’s finally reached his goal, after beeing working on this project since mid-last year.
The pair is crafted in a mix of suede and mesh materials, with a fiery-themed colorway. The upper consists of an off white palette troughout, with coral tiger stripes and some red and blue details on a white Gel midsole.
The ASICS Gel Diablo x Ronnie Fieg “Volcano 2.0” is limited to 1000 pairs total. 500 pairs were released on April 12th and the other half will releasing on Friday.

Personally, I’m extremely excited about this upcoming release, as I’m a big fan of the Volcano colorway and I’m also happy seeing the Gel Diablo brought back by Ronnie. If someone in the industry is able to bring back silhouettes, than it’s the man himself. He has done it before succesfully and he’s doing it again with another great model.
The Gel Diablo “Volcano 2.0” has really grown on me, it’s a very simple colorway, but I really like the color scheme and details Ronnie has build into this beautiful silhouette. Also him honoring such a wonderful release as the Gel Lyte V “Volcano”, just makes it even better.
We will be seeing another colorway of the Gel Diablo by RF later this year, but also a bunch of OG color palettes dropping as inline products in Summer.

Eventough I prefer the “Volcano” cw on the Gel Lyte V, I have to admit it has been a dream of mine seeing this color scheme on the split tongue silhouette for a long time. The Gel Lyte V has a very personal meaning to me, as it was one of the longest camp outs I did since I started collecting. I remember every single minute of those twelf hours I spent in front of Titolo Shop in Bern, back on November 16th 2013 on a freezing day with below cero temperatures, but all I can say it was totally worth it to cop one of the best colorways ever produced on a Gel Lyte V.
The special box gives another nice extra touch to the whole project and I’m really hoping to get lucky this upcoming Friday at the online release. I’ve got my fingers crossed already as I would really love to cop both colorways, not only because I like them, but also because the colorway has a very special place in the history of ASICS and also in my years as a sneaker collector.
Good luck to everyone out there who will be trying and I hope to be doing some on feet pictures of both models very soon!

The Volcano 2.0 collection pays homage to its predecessor in the most elevated fashion. It adds another notch in my timeline with Asics by introducing another new silhouette, while simultaneously celebrating our past together. I am excited to finally share this collection with you.
– Ronnie Fieg

The ASICS x Ronnie Fieg “Volcano 2.0” Collection, including the Gel Lyte III priced at 250$ and the Gel Diablo retailed at 175$, aswell as a stunning apparel collection which are dropping this upcoming Friday, April 21st at 11AM at the different Kith locations and on
Good luck to everyone and thank you Ronnie for bringing back this amazing colorway and the Gel Diablo!

ASICS Gel Lyte V x Commonwealth “Kultura”

US retailer Commonwealth has teamed up once again with ASICS Tiger to give birth to the Gel Lyte V “Kultura”, in order to celebrate the opening of their new store, which is located in the Philippines.
The ASICS Tiger x Commonwealth “Kultura” is set to release next Saturday, April 7th at Commonwealth locations and on their Website.

US sneaker retailer Commonwealth is opening a new store in the Philippines. To celebrate this special occasion they’ve joined forces with ASICS, to create a new Gel Lyte V.
The Project is inspired by a filipino ethnic group who inhabit the mountains of Luzon, called Kalinga. Despite the occupation by the Spanish, American and Japanese people during several years, the group has preserved their ancient culture. The tongue pattern is a piece of their culture, a specific tribal body art called batok, constructed by geometric shapes and references to nature.

In honor of the Kalinga, ASICS Tiger and Commonwealth have teamed up for this special collaboration on the Gel Lyte V, which features an upper manufactured with premium nubuck, suede and mesh on the toe box in a tan colorway, including the batok inspired pattern on the tongue and collar in navy. The Gel Lyte V features tonal tan stripes on the lateral side and navy stripes on the medial side.

Personally, I have to say, the previous collaborations between Commonwealth and ASICS were better. The Gel Lyte V “Gemini” had that special factor of the reversed materials on each shoe and the “Da Vinci” is a piece of art and for me personally one of the best Gel Lyte V’s to ever release. The ASICS Gel Lyte V “Kultura” looks nice in my opinion. Commonwealth chose a very interesting theme, honoring also their new location and I really like the pattern on the tongue and the material choice on the toe box and site panels, but seeing their earlier work together with the Japanese brand, I would have expected a bit more. All in all, a good job by the US based retailer.

The collaboration between ASICS Tiger and Commonwealth “Kultura” is set to release on April 7th at Commonwealth in-store and online. The worldwide release is set for April 14th at select ASICS Tiger retailers.
Let me know what you think about the latest Commonwealth x ASICS project in the comment section below!

Crepe City Recap 2017

I visited London last week, in order to be at the latest Crepe City Event which took place in the Old Truman Brewery last Saturday, March 25th. I had been on the previous year already and had a wonderful experience, so it was
There was a great atmosphere during the whole day, nice sound in each hall, good food and the most important thing good people with even better trainers.

The CC Crew manages to impress me every year. For this occasion the Event was even better than the one I’ve been before. Again the UK lads did a great job with their collection, which is now available on their website aswell.
Due to the 30th Anniversary of the Air Max 1 on March 26th, there was a lot of hype around the swoosh brand and their recent releases. To celebrate this special occasion Crepe City, Nike and Size? joined forces to prepare a nice pop-up store around the corner of the Event, showcasing some of the most wanted Air Max models of the last decade, pairs which were raffled off later on to some lucky contestants.

Eventough they were mainly Yeezy and Air Max 1 for sale, I managed to grab myself two decent pairs of ASICS I’ve been hunting for a while. The first was the ASICS Gel Lyte III x Concepts “Three Lies” from 2013 and also the ASICS GT-2 “The Netherlands” from 2012, which was the official pair for the dutch team in the Olympic games in London.
I actually saw a few nice pairs I would have loved to grab, especially the Gel Lyte III x Ronnie Fieg “Militia” and the Gel Lyte III x Solefly “Night Haven” caugth my attention.
One of the negative part of the event was as always the prices on a lot of pairs. Furthermore there were lots of young kids around wearing some really expensive Supreme stuff and looking for hyped things like Adidas Yeezy Boosts and the recent Air Max 1 releases, but a part from that I have to admit I had a great time and I’ll be visiting CC soon again.

Of course there were a lot of pairs of Asics on feet and for sale. If I had to choose one of the pairs that I’ve seen on feet it would definitely be between the Gel Lyte III x Invicible “Formosa” and the Gel Lyte III x Ronnie Fieg “Culture Shoq 2.0” worn by the brother Tom aka @aintfussed. You can see my top 5 selection below…

ASICS Gel Lyte III x Ronnie Fieg “Culture Shoq 2.0”
ASICS Gel Lyte III x Invincible “Formosa”
ASICS Gel Lyte III x Ronnie Fieg x Highsnobiety
ASICS Gel Lyte III x Ronnie Fieg “The Cove”
ASICS Gel Lyte III x Hanon Shop “Wildcats”

Once again I had a incredible time at the Event, I was happy to catch up with some fellas I hadn’t seen in a while and of course meet a lot of people.
Thanks to the whole Crepe City Crew for doing once again a great job with the whole Event, you guys rocked it and I had a wonderful time. Big up to everyone who stopped by to say Hello and also to Glenn, Morgan and Ron for having me at CC.
A very special thank you goes out to my buddy Javi aka @jotaese27 and also to the man Wilson @smileymalone for the hospitality and for showing me around London. Big up!

For those who missed out the Event last weekend, here’s an extended recap of Crepe City 2017. Enjoy and feel free to share the Pictures.

ASICS “Veg Tan” Pack

ASICS Tiger continues dropping some very interesting general releases for the beggining of the year. This upcoming Friday, 10th February the ASICS Gel Lyte III & V of the “Veg Tan” Pack will drop at selected ASICS Tiger retailers all over the globe.

The Japanese brand keeps up the good work they’ve been doing since the past year, with another great general release pack.
The pack consists of two pairs, a Gel Lyte III and a Gel Respector, both featuring a beautiful light brown-beige color blocking on a white midsole.
Both pairs were crafted with premium quality vegetable tanned leather troughout the upper, a very natural material, which is becoming more and more popular.
Each pair of the pack includes off white rope and flat lace options.

In my opinion another great executed pack and some of the best releases I’ve seen in a while from the inline series of ASICS.
Even if to some of you the retail price of 199€  seems a bit over the top, don’t forget the whole upper is crafted of vegetable tanned leather, which is an expensive, but outstanding quality material choice.
I’m hoping to get my hands on at least one of the pairs, as I love the look of the material, especially after beeing worn a couple of times.

Stay tuned for more information and pictures of this incredible pack, which releases at selected retailers worldwide, some of them listed below, this Friday, 10th February and will be priced at 199€ each.

ASICS x Size? “Far Side of the Moon” Pack

ASICS Tiger and the UK sneaker retailer Size? have joined forces to create the “Far Side of the Moon” Pack, which consists of a Gel Lyte III and Gel Lyte V, dropping on February 10th exclusively at the different Size? locations and priced at 110£.

ASICS Tiger and Size? have teamed up once again for an exclusive collaboration inspired by the space programm and the suits of the USSR astronauts, which on October 4th 1959 took the first ever photographs of the far side of the moon. To get to see the impossible back then was a huge step for humanity and ASICS and Size? have tried to honor that moment with this pack.
The Gel Lyte III features a black and grey colorway on the upper on a off white-greyish midsole and the Gel Lyte V is crafted of an olive-brown upper on a full black midsole.
Both pairs feature a mix of suede and hairy suede on the upper, a material we’ve seen already on recent ASICS collaborations like the one with Mita or Invincible.
As a finishing detail both pairs of the pack have “Luna 3” branding on each shoe.

Personally I’m very excited about the pack ASICS Tiger and Size? have crafted. Even if I like one pair more than the other, I gotta admit the overall pack including the special box is outstanding.
I’m very keen on the Gel Lyte III, I like the simplicity of the colorway and especially the material choice of the hairy suede troughout the upper.
I guess I would just have made the midsole in an off white or beige, to avoid such a contrast, but regarding the theme they made the right choice. I really hope to get my hands on the Gel Lyte III including the special package.

The size? x ASICS Tiger “Far Side of the Moon” pack drops online and at selected Size? stores on Friday 10th February. The first customers in row at Size? Manchester, Meadowhall, Carnaby St, Amsterdam, Paris and Bordeuax to purchase one of the pairs will have the chance to get the special box including patches and pinsets like on the picture above.
The Gel Lyte III is priced at 105£ and the Gel Lyte V at 110£.
