US retailer Commonwealth has teamed up once again with ASICS Tiger to give birth to the Gel Lyte V “Kultura”, in order to celebrate the opening of their new store, which is located in the Philippines.
The ASICS Tiger x Commonwealth “Kultura” is set to release next Saturday, April 7th at Commonwealth locations and on their Website.
US sneaker retailer Commonwealth is opening a new store in the Philippines. To celebrate this special occasion they’ve joined forces with ASICS, to create a new Gel Lyte V.
The Project is inspired by a filipino ethnic group who inhabit the mountains of Luzon, called Kalinga. Despite the occupation by the Spanish, American and Japanese people during several years, the group has preserved their ancient culture. The tongue pattern is a piece of their culture, a specific tribal body art called batok, constructed by geometric shapes and references to nature.
In honor of the Kalinga, ASICS Tiger and Commonwealth have teamed up for this special collaboration on the Gel Lyte V, which features an upper manufactured with premium nubuck, suede and mesh on the toe box in a tan colorway, including the batok inspired pattern on the tongue and collar in navy. The Gel Lyte V features tonal tan stripes on the lateral side and navy stripes on the medial side.
Personally, I have to say, the previous collaborations between Commonwealth and ASICS were better. The Gel Lyte V “Gemini” had that special factor of the reversed materials on each shoe and the “Da Vinci” is a piece of art and for me personally one of the best Gel Lyte V’s to ever release. The ASICS Gel Lyte V “Kultura” looks nice in my opinion. Commonwealth chose a very interesting theme, honoring also their new location and I really like the pattern on the tongue and the material choice on the toe box and site panels, but seeing their earlier work together with the Japanese brand, I would have expected a bit more. All in all, a good job by the US based retailer.
The collaboration between ASICS Tiger and Commonwealth “Kultura” is set to release on April 7th at Commonwealth in-store and online. The worldwide release is set for April 14th at select ASICS Tiger retailers.
