ASICS Tiger is finally re-introducing the Gel Lyte OG, which originally released 30 years ago in 1987. Even tough they made some slight changes on the midsole, due to stability issues, the Gel Lyte OG will come back the same way as it did 30 years ago.
The original Gel-Lyte I, was the beginning of the Gel Lyte series with its colour blocking and reflective forefoot panels for extra visibility. The light feel of the shoe was assisted by the solitary heel Gel unit and a tri-density midsole, nylon synthetic fabric and Duraskin reinforcement.
An anti-torque staibility system was applied on the Gel Lyte OG with motion control in mind, while the blown rubber outsole with a gum rubber heel plug completed this mid to high mileage creation.
The 1987 Gel Lyte OG will come back in July, 30 years after in two Original colorways. The first one is the Orange/Black/White and the second will be in a Baby Blue/White colour scheme.
Personally, I’m really excited seeing ASICS Tiger bringing back the Gel Lyte OG. I’ve got six of the original colorways in my collection and I absolutely love the silhouette.
I was lucky enough to see the first retros in hand in the beggining of the year and we can really expect some good Projects until the end of the 2017.
I hope that ASICS continues their wave of re-releasing silhouettes from the past as the Gel Lyte OG, they brought back some good stuff lately and I’m sure we can expect some more re-issues for the upcoming year or 2018 the latest.
The ASICS Gel Lyte OG will release in July in selected retailers as 24 Kilates, Titelhelden and Titolo Shop. There are no further information on the exact release date, but be sure to stay tuned as we’ll be seeing some very promising things on this silhouette in the future and the first collaboration will be dropping in July!
