Asics Tiger and Packer Shoes have teamed up once again for a very tennis inspired pack, which released on August 30th in a pop-up shop at Grand Central Station’s Vanderbilt Hall in New York. The full pack, as also the apparel, are still available online in almost all sizes.
We have seen some very good collabs between Asics and Packer Shoes in the last couple of years. The japanese brand and the New Jersey based sneaker retailer have teamed up once again to create an US Open based sneaker and apparel collection.
The pack consists of five pairs of sneakers, including a Asics Gel Lyte III, Gel Sight and Gel Resolution 6 as well as a Onitsuka Tiger GSM and Lawnship. The sneakers are accompanied by a selected apparel, in which also Mitchell & Ness was involved. The apparel collection features different components like shorts, tees, a windbreaker and caps.
The Gel Lyte III is my favorite out of the whole pack. A simple cw with a good choice of materials and fresh details, all you need for a good pair. The sneaker features a premium off white/beige pigskin upper with perforated toe box. The lateral tiger stripes are navy and red and the medial ones have the same tone as the upper. The gum outsole, the nice “Packer” branding on the split tongue and the debossed tennis racquet logo on the heels give a nice finishing touch to a very clean pair. The Asics Gel Lyte III comes with 3 different lace options and is priced at 160$.
The second pair of the pack is a navy Gel Sight. The upper consists of premium tumbled leather with hints of red on the Asics branding on the tongue, lace tips and tiger stripes.
In this occasion we can find the debossed tennis racquet logo on the tongue and the Packer branding on the insole. Again the pair comes with 3 sets of laces and is priced at 150$.
The third pair is the Gel Resolution 6, a runner which comes out of the performance section and was updated with lifestyle materials as leather throughout the upper and premium suede on the tongue. Like on the Gel Lyte III, we can also find the debossed tennis racquet logo on both heels and as also a gum outsole.
The mismatched blue and red color blocking gives a bit the final twist to this runner, which is retailed at 150$.
Both Onitsuka Tigers were also made with premium materials as premium tumbled leather and pigskin suede and are retailed at 100$ (GSM) and 110$ (Lawnship).
For the launch of this special collaboration Packer and Asics have prepared a nice pop up store in NYC’s Grand Central station, which was open to public from August 30th to September 1st to check out the whole apparel and of course the releasing kicks. The whole set is still up for grabs online at Packer Shoes, so don’t miss the chance to cop, as they won’t make it to other retailers from what I heard.
