Ronnie Fieg and Kith are celebrating their 5th Anniversary this year!
In honor of this special occasion we’ll be seeing some interesting collaborations between the New York based designer and some of the most popular brands.
Asics Tiger will be a very important part of this Anniversary, with some long expected unicorn pairs…
RF has been teasing a lot since the beginning of the year on his Twitter about the importance of this Anniversary for the sneaker scene.
Earlier this year, he announced that he was giving the chance by Asics to design his own silhouette. He decided to create kind of an Hybrid called Gel Lyte 3.1, using the Gel Lyte III upper a Gel Nimbus sole, giving a more athletic look to the trainer but also increasing the comfort.
The first pair to drop will be the one shown above, limited to only 700 pairs. The runner features a full black premium leather upper with perforation on the toe box and side panels. The Nimbus sole will be white with some black hints and the pair will also have little super green details in the toe box.
Aside of this pair, Ronnie made quite an announcement this week, tweeting about the release of a Made in Japan version of the long expected Super Green Gel Lyte III, which will be releasing on the same date as the black Gel Lyte 3.1.
Later this year we will be seeing a second and third pair of Gel Lyte 3.1, which will be the end of the silhouette as he announced on his Twitter account. There have been rumors about a release of the Mossad and Salmon Toe Sample with navy midsole on the innovative silhouette, as a couple of weeks ago he posted a picture on his Instagram, holding the Salmon Toe Sample and in front of him the Super Greens and Mossads on a table.
I’m really hoping on the Mossads, as I think it’s one of his finest work on the Gel Lyte III silhouette.
Back in 2012, RF started a very nice project in partnership with Asics Tiger and together with Pete Forester from Sole for Souls. They gave birth to an unique and beautiful project, giving away 300 pairs of the Super Green Gel Lyte III to some of the kids in Haiti that suffered from the terrible consequences of the earth quake in 2010.
He designed one of his most recognizable runners to date for this occasion and even if those were only meant to be given away to the children in Haiti, there have always been pairs floating around the Internet for crazy amounts of money. Since then it has always been a myth how those pairs got to the hands of collectors, but in my opinion it makes them even more extraordinary.
Here are some of the pictures Pete took the day the pairs were brought to the kids, in my opinion it’s one of the most beautiful sneaker related things I’ve seen.
Personally I’m very excited about the Super Greens, even if it’s one of the most hyped pairs, I always thought of them as a very special pair for obvious reasons. I really hope I get lucky enough to get a pair myself, so if anyone is willing to help me out let me know…
About the Gel Lyte 3.1, I will need to judge them in hand. I kinda like the idea of the split tongue upper on the Nimbus midsole, but it kinda gives a strange look to them, as I’m a very big fan of the original silhouette and not used to see such a change in them. Anyways I want to see them in hand to give my final judgement and also try them on, regarding the comfort point I mentioned above.
I’m sure I won’t be copping the first color way, as I don’t like all-black runners that much, but I’m excited to see what the other two cw’s might be looking like!
