In the beginning of July I visited the freshly new relocated Seven Sneaker Store in Basel, Switzerland. I had the pleasure to chat with the store owner and dear friend Marc and also with his work partner Vinci about their new location, their business and of course about our common passion, sneakers.
The Seven Sneaker Store first opened back in September 2011 in Basel and in June they moved to a new and bigger location in the heart of Basel. I had a nice meet up with the guys from the Seven Sneaker Store to talk about our common passion about sneakers and also about his relation to the brand Asics Tiger.
Marc himself is a collector since a couple of years now and counts nearly 300 pairs in his personal collection, with a good amount of Gel silhouettes. His favorite pair is the Asics Gel Lyte III x Colette x LaMJC from 2008, which he’s still hunting, but as we all know it’s practically impossible to get. Being a passioned basketball player since a young age, sneakers have always been an essential part for Marc in his daily life. He decided to start with Seven five years ago and chose Basel as his location, because there wasn’t any sneaker store anywhere nearby. A childhood memory of Marc gives the name to his shop, back when he was 10 years old and he was looking for a pair of sneakers, he saw the Air Jordan 7 OG in a sneaker store in his hometown, but due to his young age he couldn’t afford them and went home with a pair of Reebok Pump Blacktop instead. The Air Jordan 7 silhouette is his favorite out of all basketball sneakers, so he decided to name the shop after the silhouette.
His co-worker Vinci started helping out in the store from pretty much the beginning and is a very important part of the store. He’s also a sneaker collector and his all time grail is the Asics Gel Saga x Footpatrol, which released in 2012.
The store has just moved to his new location, which is more central than his last one. As you can see in the pictures, the display looks spot on and they also have some very nice paintings in the shop, which were made by Ejay, a very talented dude which is part of the Sole Season team.
They are preparing a very nice project in the upper part of the store. Apart from his sneaker passion, Marc is also a big fan of art. He wants to prepare a showroom, where he will be able to combine his two passions and we also might see a little gallery out of my collection there in near future, as also a small ASICS Museum for the 30 years Gel-Anniversary in November.
The Seven Sneaker Store is together with Asics an official partner of the Sole Season – Jäger & Sammler sneaker market, which will have it’s 3rd edition on the upcoming November 6th. Marc and Vinci will be representing Seven with an enormous choice of sneakers and the biggest part will be for the ladies.
Marc came up with that idea a couple of years ago, seeing that usually it was harder for woman to get some kicks at sneaker conventions than for the guys.
I hope to see you there on November 6th in Basel to catch up about sneakers and have a great time!
I want to thank Marc and Vinci for taking the time to chat with me and sharing some interesting stories of their sneaker related past and I wish them all the best for the future! Stay tuned to the Seven Sneaker Store on Facebook, Instagram and of course on their website, which will be up very soon…
